Biographical Note: The IRIS Award was created and awarded by the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE). Begun in 1968 as the Program Excellence Awards and renamed in 1977, these are the only national broadcasting award meant to honor quality local television programming.  Videotapes of local television programs in markets 1-25 were submitted to the University of Georgia Journalism School for judging. Markets 26-65 were judged in the RTF Dept. of Temple University, and Markets 66-212 and foreign markets were judged at Ohio University. It appears that UGA may be the only judging location to have retained the program tapes as submitted.
