The collection consists of videotapes and silent film from the 1970 music television show Now Explosion. Sixteen-millimeter film productions in the collection which were made by Whitney and his staff to go with songs aired include the following titles: American Woman, Leavin' on a Jet Plane, and Tears of a Clown, plus many others.

Recordings of church services and choral and gospel music. Many recordings occurred at historically black colleges and universities (HCBUs) and African American churches. 

Music recorded at Bill Lowery's Southern Tracks studio.

This collection contains a variety of materials such as: educational films, commercials, and television episodes on 16mm, audio reels containing broadcasts from '70s New York FM stations, and tapes from the estate of esteemed Detroit disc jockey (and high school AV teacher) "Uncle" Russ Gibb. The majority of this media was collected from thrift stores and online auction sales.
