The Healing Arts. [2000-08-05], Comprehensive Cancer Care 2000 Special
"Is cancer caused by the environment, by heavy metals and chemicals within the body, by long-term stress or heredity? Questions like these are being addressed as the medical mainstream moves into the new world of 'complementary and alternative therapies' (CAM). The body-mind medicine movement allows people the freedom to explore their emotions and their sense of spirituality in combination with cleansing and stress-reducing regimens to complement traditional medical protocol (chemotherapy, radiation treatment and surgery).

"This special edition of 'The Healing Arts' features reports from the Comprehensive Cancer Care 2000 conference in Washington, D.C.[,] where host Colleen Pyke talked with leaders in the cancer community who are spearheading non-traditional forms of therapy to treat the whole person: body, mind and spirit. The program reports on efforts to increase public awareness so people can be empowered to make their own informed healthcare choices.

"The program includes interviews and conversations with doctors, nurses, authors, researchers, and cancer survivors. A segment-by-segment listing of featured guests and a conference program are included in the entry materials for further reference."--2000 Peabody Awards entry form.
