GRAY MATTERS. Since its debut in May 1994, the series has combined lively case histories, interviews with neuroscientists and health care professionals, and commentary by well known hosts such as Robert MacNeil, Mandy Patinkin, Judy Woodruff, Pat Summerall, Natalie Portman and Frank Gifford. Garrick Utley introduces the show. Each episode deals with topics of strong interest to a broad range of radio listeners. For example, CBS News Correspondent Mike Wallace brought the benefit of his own first-hand experience with depression to his role as host of 'Depression and the Brain.' And [Academy Award winner] Patricia Neal hosts 'Aging and the Brain' where she speaks of her own dramatic recovery from a paralyzing series of strokes in 1965, which attracted public notice to the disorder -- and is now a major focus of neuroscientific research.
GRAY MATTERS is a 13-part series produced in association with the Charles A. Dana Foundation, a non-profit philanthropic organization with particular interest in the neurosciences and education. The series was carried in 2000 by over 150 stations via Public Radio International.
