Kids Corner
Summary: Description: 'KIDS CORNER is a daily, live, interactive radio program for kids produced by WXPN at the University of Pennsylvania. KIDS CORNER has been entertaining and educating kids since 1988 with a mix of music, call-in segments, informative guests, and interactive games. Each program is divided into two segments. Segments are devoted to topics such as natural science, computers, health & safety issues, musical performance, and geography.

'Our 'Respect Yourself' segment grew in response to concerns about violence in schools. We believe that focusing on issues of respect (for oneself, one's surroundings, and one's peers) helps empower kids to address difficult situations in a positive manner.

'Psychologist Mary Eisman has been an on-air contributor to KIDS CORNER since its inception. On the 'Respect Yourself' segment, we read a letter outlining a situation, then ask listeners to think about possible suggestions while we play an interactive BrainBusters game looking at some of the people in history whose lives reflected respect for themselves and their surroundings. Following BrainBusters, we take calls from listeners with their suggestions for solving the problem discussed.'--2000 Peabody Awards entry form.
