Angelina Ballerina: the next steps (Television program). [2009-09-04], Angelina's Sleepover/Angelina's Noisy, Messy Lunchtime
Summary: "HIT Entertainment and THIRTEEN, the most-watched public television station in America and a producing station for PBS, partnered to proudly debut the new CG animated series, Angelina Ballerina(TM) The Next Steps in September 2009. Inspired by the best-selling Angelina Ballerina books written by Katharine Holabird and illustrated by Helen Craig, each episode of the series, consists of two 12-minute CG animated stories linked by a 2 minute, live-action interstitial segment, featuring young dancers and musicians performing and sharing their love of the arts.

"In the series, Angelina, our eight year old prima ballerina, endeavors to put her best toe forward to meet new challenges as her world expands to include, a new home, a new school, new friends, and new forms of dance and creative expression.

"Her new school, Camembert Academy, a school for the performing arts, celebrates music and brings to life new forms of dance for Angelina including modern, tap, jazz, folk, Irish step, and Flamenco. With much enthusiasm and a few missteps, Angelina works hard to reach her goals and eagerly learns from her mistakes.

"The series incorporates a music and dance curriculum based on the national standards for teaching music and dance to 4-8 year old children. Hit worked closely with the American Ballet Theatre and a number of experienced dance and music professionals to insure that the curricula, were age appropriate and appropriately presented. The CG animation allowed producers to demonstrate a full-range of dance movements and show the characters turning 360 degrees. Real dancers, performing age appropriate steps were taped and the tapes were provided to the animation team to insure that the animated performances were correct. Animation for each episode was then reviewed by a dance professional to further insure the animation accurately reflected the live action. Our music consultant reviewed each script to insure music content was accurate and reviewed animation to insure the animated characters, held and fingered instruments properly.

"The intent of the series is to introduce young children to different styles of music and dance, and to help them to understand and appreciate the basic joys of movement, artistic expression, musicality, imagination and coordination. Angelina is full of enthusiasm, and big dreams. We believe that as kids share in Angelina's adventures, they will be inspired to pursue and express their dreams too!"--2009 Peabody Awards entry form.
