Lawrence Welk: Milestones & Memories Media kit
Summary: "LAWRENCE WELK: MILESTONES & MEMORIES is a once-in-a-lifetime musical reunion celebrating the Welk Show's remarkable longevity and accomplishments. The five-act musical event follows The Lawrence Welk Show's 50 years on television, the longest running variety show in TV history. Forty-seven members of the original Welk Musical Family reunite on stage at the Champagne Theatre in Branson, Missouri, performing more than 30 songs and musical numbers, plus a special 25-song medley in the final act.

"The Welk stars and musicians serve as guides for this unforgettable musical journey through the 20th century, recalling entertaining stories and some of the show's historic milestones, illustrated by rare archive footage and photographs. Following in the great Welk tradition, music is provided by the 20-piece Lawrence Welk Orchestra playing many of the Welk original arrangements.

"The concert received numerous standing ovations from a large crowd of enthusiastic, longtime fans who traveled from all 50 states to be a part of the historic event.

"This special presentation of the great American songbook aired on PBS in March 2001 as a celebration of the musical legacy left by Lawrence Welk."--2001 Peabody Awards entry form.
