The Telenews Weekly [1950-11]
Summary: Telenews Productions, Inc. produced newsreels for television purposes, including a daily eight-minute newsreel, a weekly sixteen-minute summary, and a weekly twelve-minute sports newsreel. With offices across the nation, Telenews serviced 70 of the 103 television stations in the United States, as well as stations in Brazil, Cuba, and Mexico. News films were gathered through permanent correspondents in as many as 160 foreign countries. Telenews was an arm of Hearst-MGM News of the Day. Some newsreels, such as this special report on the attempted assassination of President Harry S. Truman, were devoted to one issue. Here, the Nov. 1 incident, in which one would-be assassin and one guard were killed outside the President's temporary residence at Blair House, is examined in light of the revolt by Nationalist Party members in Puerto Rico. On Oct. 28, 111 inmates shot their way out of Rio Piedras Prison. On Oct. 30, the revolt was staged and subsequently defeated by National Guardsmen. Gov. Luis Munoz Marin charged that the Communists were behind both the revolt and the attempt on Truman's life.
