Scope and Content Note: Film and audio recorded in the early 1980s for the 1986 documentary Athens, GA: Inside/Out.
Biographical Note: Bill Cody is a filmmaker and writer who has had films at major film festivals all over the world including Sundance, Berlin, Full Frame and many more. He first started in the film industry as an assistant to famed writer-director John Milius (Apocalypse Now, The Wind and the Lion) and went on to make many acclaimed documentaries both as a producer and a director, including Athens, GA/Inside-Out, two-headed cow and Athens/Inside-Out 2: Red Turns into Blue. His feature film Slaves to the Underground was in competition at both Sundance and Berlin.
Starting in 2001, Bill mixed filmmaking with politics, primarily working as a campaign staffer for former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti; Congressman Tony Cardenas; and California State Senator and Los Angeles City Councilmember Gil Cedillo. From 2017 to the end of 2012 he worked as a Senior staffer for Los Angeles City Council District 1, covering northeast Los Angeles.
When not working in politics, Cody taught film in Iraq during the 2007 and 2008 surge, wrote scripts for the Disney Channel and FR Productions and produced and directed the film Kids Like You & Me, about Atlanta based band The Black Lips 2012 tour of the Middle East, which was featured on NPR, Sirius Radio, and Vice TV. He is also a regular guest on the YouTube political show This Is Revolution.
