Scope and Content Note: Interviews with writers Wilma Dykeman (1920-2006) and newspaper editor Nancy Smith of Tallahassee, Florida.
Biographical Note: Dr. Margaret Rose Gladney is a former associate professor of American studies at the University of Alabama. She spent her career working on issues of social justice and change. She was one of the early professors in the University of Alabama's women's studies departmen helped to craft the master's program in that field. She also helped develop and sustain the African-American studies minor. Dr. Gladney compiled the books How Am I to Be Heard? Letters of Lillian Smith and One Hour.
