Scope and Content Note: ca. 700 1/4 inch audio reels, primarily episodes of the radio program "Leonard's Losers." Each season of the show featured a College series and a Pro series. The Collection contains complete or near-complete runs of the series from 1974-1991 with some years missing or incomplete. It also includes recorded commercials, several recordings of Leonard Postero voicing his creations "Percy Peabody" and "Leonard Postosties," as well as interviews with significant figures from the world of sports including Jim Koger and Fran Tarkenton.
Also contains the undated radio series "A Moment in American History" with Patrick Shannon, 100 episodes on 9 reels.
Biographical Note: "Leonard Postero, Sr. was born in Athens and attended graduated from Athens High School and the University of Georgia. He served from 1943 to 1945 as an aviator for the U.S. Navy, then, started a number of successful businesses in Athens. Leonard is best remembered as the creative genius behind ''Leonard's Losers,'' a popular football prognostication publication and radio program heard on a variety of radio stations including Armed Forces Radio. From 1958 through 1999, he wrote and produced the show and performed the colorful voices of ''Leonard Postosties'' and ''Percy Peabody.'' With the late Jim Koger, he developed the first full season of the University of Georgia Basketball Network. Postero was a member of many different organizations including the Rotary, the Lions Club, Elks Club and The Gridiron Society. He was instrumental in starting the Athens High Boosters Club. In 1975, Leonard re-established the Southern Intercollegiate Golf Tournament, serving as its chairman for 10 years. People will always remember Leonard for his colorful personality, generous spirit and contagious sense of humor. He died in 2001."--Georgia Radio Hall of Fame.
