Biographical Note: Arthur L. Montgomery (1923-2012), son of L.F. Montgomery, was a prominent Atlanta business and civic leader. His status among the city’s elite is celebrated in James Dickey’s poem “Buckhead Boys.” He served as president of the Atlanta Coca-Cola Bottling Co. and chairman of Atlanta-Fulton County Recreation Authority. In the latter role, he was instrumental in bringing professional sports, including the Atlanta Braves baseball team and Atlanta Falcons football team, to the city. In his role as executive vice president of Atlanta Landmarks, he ensured the preservation of the Fox Theatre. An auto racing fan, he founded Road Atlanta in 1970. Montgomery was heavily involved in civic and charitable organizations, including the American Cancer Society, University of Georgia Foundation, Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School, Atlanta Municipal Theater, Atlanta Symphony, Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, Georgia Student Educational Fund, Atlanta Rotary Club, and the Georgia Alumni Society.
