"Welcome South Brother” (WSB) Radio, the genesis of the WSB broadcasting network, was formed in 1922 as Atlanta’s first radio station. WSB-TV was subsequently formed in 1948, becoming one of the first television stations in the South. The station has consistently been an early adopter of new techniques and technology. In 1975, WSB-TV switched from film to videotape for recording news reports on the scene. This technological transition marked a dramatic acceleration in the speed at which news could be recorded, edited, and aired. Since news cameramen no longer had to develop film before the broadcast, stories could be shot on tape much closer to airtime, allowing a greater number of stories per newscast and increasing the amount of tapes being used and saved.
