Remember the Alamo!
Summary: "Almost every student has learned about the battle in which thousands of Mexicans massacred a small band of Texans, including heroic figures like Jim Bowie, Davy Crockett and William Travis on March 6, 1836. As preserved in popular culture, The Alamo represents a battle of good vs. evil and freedom vs. tyranny. But when the myth is stripped away from the battle, a different history emerges. Remember The Alamo examines the real story surrounding this memorable event. Hosted by Dennis Quaid, star of the new holiday release of The Alamo.

"Remember The Alamo presents a balanced account of the Alamo story from the viewpoints of two countries, one which thirsted to expand its borders, the other trying to protect its territory. Using dramatic reenactments of the fall of the Alamo, demonstrations of weapons used, maps, vintage photos and expert commentary from historians and authors, Remember The Alamo will alter the perception of a historical tale most Americans thought they knew so well.

"Remember The Alamo tells the stories and motivations of the key players, including Mexican General Santa Anna, who rose to power preaching Federalism but soon found dictatorship more to his liking; Jim Bowie, who fled from a criminal past and actually was a Mexican citizen at the time of his death; Col. William Travis, a slavery advocate who was at odds with the Mexican government which prohibited the practice; and Davy Crockett, who moved to Texas in search of influence and power after losing a Congressional election that quashed his political ambitions at home."--2003 Peabody Awards entry form.
